This morning I was determined to finally make it to Rawesome, a specialty grocery store in Venice. At the risk of sounding crazy new age, it is all raw shit, see? ;) It is membership-only & rather expensive, but it aims at the diet and lifestyle I've wanted forever. So - today was the day I went to see what the fuss was all about --- and to test myself how badly I actually wanted the raw life.
Oh boy, do I want the raw life. But I'm no vegan or vegetarian and I most likely never will be. But I ADORE my smoothies and uncooked meat & fish. Perfect for someone like me who doesn't even chew (yes, I'm *incredibly* lazy). I've wanted it forever but - it costs so much, plus there are few places willing to handle completely raw meat. Sushi is one thing, but beef & chicken and whatnot are another. Fucking nothing makes me oreffinggasmic as uncooked, untainted, unfucked beef ... Steak tartare or carpaccio, anyone? I dragged the Englishman @rickt out to Venice. There was a nice modern house next to the shop (no sign, just "665," one cute digit away from "666") that was graced with a single and beautiful chandelier. We paid for a $1 day pass (a year's membership is $25). Rawesome re-uses all their containers, even the egg cartons. The selection wasn't big but the choices were exquisitely exacting. My head was fogged up from sweet Seroquel the night before, so I went for easy shopping: 2 blood oranges (oh so bloody red inside), $10 Raspberries & Cream (Amish cream, sage honey, vanilla, raspberries), a $20 Syrah of BOOM BOOM! from Whole Foods across the street (sober ain't my game) and LAST BUT NOT LEAST - a glass jar of raw bleeping beef! "Spicy Beef" was $15 and completely worth the extravagance. @rickt: "The economy is so bad!" me: "And we're going to a specialty foods store. :)" Both of us: "Did that homeless guy's sign say ... COKE?"I am drunk as bleep right now, so I'm just going to wrap it up that raw meat is all I have ever wanted. Always have and always will. DIVINE. Raw meat, raw milk - it's simply made for me. Oh! The Raspberries & Cream?! HOLY!!! Like @rickt said, "You can smell the farm" --- Americans are SO missing out when they shop at Ralphs or whatever. You've never had real damn cream. Real cream is ... "Wow" was all we both could say; it is like nothing you've ever known. Anyway, it was a lovely golden afternoon of eating in my trashed-up car with a best buddy - just by the beach - enjoying the grand simplicity and richness of *FOOD* food - and avoiding work. :P I love you, California. And yes, blast it, I am a closet hippie. Rawesome, 665 Rose Ave, Venice, CA 90291 - Wednesday: noon - 8pm, Saturday: 9am - 4pm. PEACE THE JEEZ OUT. ____ p.s. CASH ONLY, FUCKERS. p.p.s. there was a mysterious white ribbon in my mailbox this morning, which you can see in the picture of the BOOM BOOM & raw beef & my handmade Alice in Wonderland bag.
this is the face of addiction:
the raw milk gang$ta.
got pierced today as zoetica of biorequiem.com watched over the pain-intolerant wuss that is me. let's hope this heals! i'm off to bed; i haven't slept in nearly a month. let's hope i sleeps!
i was hoping it'd hurt hurt, but, no.
@3rdm reminded me of this piece from blixa bargeld of einsturzende neubauten. WORD.
i was watching one of the most panty-creamiest einsturzende neubauten clips the other night - armenia - and i had a hard time deciding who was hotter, blixa bargeld or hugh laurie (as dr. house especially). i couldn't choose. i wanted both. right now, this present moment, if i could have a trifecta composing the ideal man ... hugh laurie, blixa bargeld & jónsi birgisson of sigur rós. they're all intense, with a certain kind of dry, almost too bitter, sarcasm: the intellectual melancholic --- yet ... impish! (gracefully weird as all heck ;)) (experimental rule-benders!) brood gloom doom & boom boom, my love :P
